It is just a different way to connect them. You can have analog cameras accessible via the internet by attaching them to a security DVR that has that capability. IP cameras usually come with some type of software that can be put on to any pc for recording the cameras. Also IP cameras can usually be accessed directly by entering the static IP into IE.
