Is the school allowed to put security cameras in the bathroom?

We had a school meeting today and the principal stated that over the summer we have had security cameras installed all around the school do to some past incidents from other local school districts. He said that "Some are visible and some are hidden, but the school security of NY state is now always going to be watching from these cameras every day."

I was just wondering if they were allowed to install cameras in the bathrooms? Is that even legal?

It isn’t even legal to put cameras in the bathrooms of prisons. Or in the inmates rooms for that matter, so I think that it is highly unlikely that it would be legal to put them in the bathrooms of schools. Also consider the fact that you are minors. If the camera caught anything sexual then that would be considered child porn.
